Background
The primary focus of this site is to document the wildflowers I have seen in the Williamson County area starting in 2008. It is difficult to trace the genesis of this interest, whether it was wanting to know what all the so-called weeds were in my vegetable garden or being inspired by the arboretum on the grounds of the California state capital in 2006. In early 2008 I took an informal course on native plant identification from the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower center and at that point I was hooked. To some degree I wanted to understand the native plants in the area simply so I could repopulate the flower beds where I was living with native flowers, and so I began trying to understand what those might be by looking at what was growing in nearby public areas like at Lake Georgetown, Doeskin Ranch, and Walnut Creek. However, learning the different plants ultimately became the primary focus; the overgrown local deer population eats just about everything that gets planted anyway.Cameras
Quality photography was unfortunately not my main goal during many of the years that I have been identifying and logging plants, a fact that became more obvious as I attempted to find decent photos to share on this site when I started it in early 2017. In the first couple of years, I used a Canon point and shoot. In 2010, I upgraded to a DSLR, a Canon T2i, which I used until late 2017 when it finally died and I replaced it with a Canon 80d. In the last few years I have used these mostly with a 100mm macro lens.Copyright
